Demi is the self-titled fourth studio album by American singer Demi Lovato, released on May 14, 2013, by Hollywood Records. Looking to transition from her self-described generic third record Unbroken (2011), Lovato wanted to make her next project to "have songs that excited [her]". Its music incorporates pop and dance-pop styles with elements of pop-rock, synthpop, and bubblegum pop. Lovato co-wrote 10 of the 13 songs on the album and recorded it during 2012 and 2013, when she also served as a judge on the second season of the American version of The X Factor.
Upon its release, Demi received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who complimented Lovato's vocal performance. It debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 110,000 copies, becoming her best-selling debut week of her career.[1] The album proved similarly successful in international markets, reaching the top five in countries including Canada, Mexico, and Spain, and becoming her first album to chart in the UK, at number 10. Its lead single "Heart Attack" peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her third highest-charting single in the country thus far.[2][3] It has since been certified 2x Platinum in the US, becoming her fastest selling single to date. The second single "Made in the USA" was released on July 16, 2013.[4] As of August 2013, the album sold approximately 265,000 copies in the United States
